I recently did articles on the World Series of Poker and the World Poker Tour but one poker tour not be forgotten is the European Poker Tour being brought to us by PokerStars.com. The European Poker Tour already has 7 stops on its schedule but there will be more added as time rolls on. Let’s discuss the tournaments that have been already completed and we will also take a look at the scheduled events that have yet to begin. The first stop for the 2009 European Poker Tour took place in Kyiv, Ukraine (“The Ukraine is weak”, I am only kidding Ukraine players but I just had to throw it in there due to Seinfeld) between August 18th and August 23rd.
The event took place in the luxurious Sports Palace Kyiv and the tournament involved 296 players battling it out for the first place prize. The buy-in for the event was 4,700+300 (Euros) and that first place prize I just mentioned ended up being €330,000. The player that came out on top ended up being Maxim Lykov (Russia) as he edged out Alexander Dovzhenko during heads up play. This was Maxim Lykov’s first final table appearance and he made his first final table one to remember as he wins the EPT PokerStars.net Kyiv Sports Poker Championship.
The next stop on in the road for the 2009 EPT took place September 4th thru September 9th at the Casino Barcelona in Barcelona, Spain. This €8,000+300 No Limit Hold’em event saw 428 players hit the felt ending up with a total prize pool of €3,382,000. When the final table was finished, Carter Phillips (USA) was the only man left standing walking away with a first place prize of €850,000. Phillips edged out Marc Goodwin who is from the UK as they went heads up for the EPT Barcelona championship. Phillips has $1,218,560 is estimated winnings when it comes to his European Poker Tour history and now he has a title to add to that resume.
The third stop on the European Poker Tour took place in London (High Roller - Sep 30th-Oct 2nd) and Matt Glantz was lucky enough to walk with the title. Matt Glantz (USA) walked away with the title after winning the heads up battle between Erik Cajelais (Canada). The tournament saw only 75 players but that may be because of the buy-in which was set at £20,500. The total prize pool ended up being €1,500,000 and Glantz walked away with a cool £542,000. Like Marc Goodwin this was Matt Glantz’s first table appearance.
The most recent event to be played for the 2009 European Poker Tour also took place in London as the Main Event saw 730 players hit the tables to compete the first place prize of £850,000. The £5,000+250 main event had a total prize pool of £3,540,000 and the man who took biggest portion of that prize pool was Aaron Gustavson (USA). Aaron Gustavson battled heads up against the most recent WSOP Main Event champion Peter Eastgate (who continues to show he is no fluke) before claiming the first place trophy.
The other tournaments that have yet to be played but are on the EPT schedule consist of EPT Vilamoura, EPT Prague, and the PCA in the Bahamas. More tournaments are set to be scheduled for the most up to date news and information visit EuropeanPokerTour.com.
